Hidden Gems of Nartiang

About the walk

Approximately 63 km from the city of  Shillong, in the Jaintia Hills, is a village called Nartiang. The village is rich in historic heritage and is especially known for the cluster of megaliths, the Durga temple, the Shiv temple, and the history of the erstwhile Jaintia ruler.

The megalithic site at Nartiang is one of the largest clusters and houses one of the tallest menhirs in the world. This site finds its way into many local folktales and legends.

Nartiang also houses two famous temples: the Durga temple which is more than 500 years old and the Shiv temple. The Shiv temple also displays a small collection of weapons that belonged to the erstwhile Jaintia ruler.
