The tradition of Dussehra at Jagdalpur

About the walk

This event is ticketed.

Bastar Dussehra is a famous festival of Bastar. Dedicated to Devi Danteshwari, tribal and local communities and the royal family of Bastar, the Bastar Dussehra displays the communal harmony of the region with each tribal community carrying out its specified task throughout the 75-day long festivities. With a history spanning 600 years, the tradition of Bastar Dussehra is unique as it is not dedicated to Lord Ram and Raavan-dahan is also not done. Various elements and places of importance like Sirhasar Bhawan, Kachangudi, Danteshwari Temple, Bastar Palace, Gol Bazaar chowk hold many stories which are linked to the Dussehra. A visit to the local market will also introduce you to the flavours of the region.
